PHILIPS
Dutch electronics group Philips produces consumer electronics and medical equipment at international level. The company focuses on improving people’s health and creating energy-efficient solutions. Philips is subdivided in Philips Healthcare, Philips Consumer Lifestyle, Innovation, Group & Services and Philips Lighting.
The history of Philips
Philips was founded in 1891 in Eindhoven. The company designed an innovative method to produce high quality light bulbs. Between 1895 and 1905 the production volume increased from 40.000 to over 4 million lamps a year. After the second world war, the company decided to no longer limit itself to producing light bulbs. From 1922, several radio broadcasters emerged, after which Philips decided to focus on the production of consumer electronics. After the economic crisis in 2008, it was decided to focus on the health industry, a branch that currently generates 42% of the total turnover.
